Project in Likir - Low ropes course

This is the low ropes course that we made during our week on project - we also made 6 benches, donated loads of sports equipment and painted some classrooms as well as a mural. The students also organised a sportsday.

Whenever you ask to take a picture of Ladhaki children they always line up and brush their hair with their hands - they were very smart at school. This was one of the middle sized classrooms - some classes only had this many students or fewer.

This is my favourite of all the pics I've taken of local kids in Likir (where we did our project. The lad on the left was always smiling and quickly realised that I was a soft target when serving during a volley ball game. I presume the boy in the centre visits the Likir Gompa (monastery) with a massive gold Buddha.

The view from our Hotel in Leh - lovely weather too - 27 deg C and not humid

In Leh

We arrived in Leh, this morning at 8am with 6 bags left in Delhi as we were too heavy (the plane, not the bags) - they are arriving tomorrow. The flight was amazing (with a good breakfast too - omlette with cumin..mmmm) - Mountains as far as the eye could see from 30,000ft, most with snow on and some fantastic rock formations - I took some pics for my lessons about sedimentary rock -one time those rocks were under the sea.
Leh is 3500m above see level so we are all a little out of breath - we are getting a lot of water too to stave off altitude sickness.
The scenery around us is fantastic - we all surrounded on all sides by mountains.
The food is great too - curries for every meal - really tasty too - Ive been eating a lot of Vedgie options (shirin would be proud!).

All in all - this is an amazing place and although I am here to help the students have a great time I am having an amazing time too!

I've tried to upload pics to this site but the comp wasn't having it so they are on my flickr site:

Show me the money!

The teams money with Ellie before changing to rupees. It took about 30 minutes for 5 of us to exchange and count all the money in the exchange office.
Felt like a military op on the way home - 5 of us with a bag and about 5 others as protection... Didn't need it though - everyone was either nice or ignored us.
